A Cat-Friendly Practice

Cat Sitting on a Shelf

Wheaton Animal Hospital is proud to be a member of the American Association of Feline Practitioners (AAFP) Cat-Friendly Practice Program.

For a litany of reasons, visiting the veterinarian can sometimes be stressful for feline patients and their owners.

Our designation as a Cat-Friendly Practice certifies that we have taken every measure to ensure the best possible experience for both you and your cat.

What to Expect

We believe feline wellness exams are vital to the health and longevity of your cat. To minimize the stress and anxiety that may be associated with a trip to the veterinarian, we have incorporated key details in our facility. A few of our cat-friendly accommodations include:

  • Waiting room — Separated from the dog waiting area in order to assist in reducing stress-induced by other pets and unfamiliar smells.

  • Exam room — A safe, non-threatening area where cats can be examined calmly and effectively.

  • Cat behavior sensitivity training — Staff are trained to understand the specialized needs of cats, including specific facial and behavioral cues, and can detect signs of fear or anxiety in a patient right away.

  • Feline-friendly handling — We use proven techniques to facilitate a more positive experience.

The Cat-Friendly Practice Program has demonstrated success in reducing fear and anxiety associated with your cat’s trip to the vet.
