Senior Pet Care at Wheaton Animal Hospital
The pet experts at Wheaton Animal Hospital are committed to providing the highest quality of life for your senior pet. Generally, cats and dogs are considered seniors when they turn 7 years old. Our senior pet preventative care program is designed to help your mature pet stay healthy and comfortable for as long as possible.
Senior Pet Preventative Care Exam
Senior pet preventative care consists of disease and parasite prevention and early diagnosis of age-related problems. Early detection ensures the best treatment outcomes for your pet. We recommend senior pets receive a wellness exam every 6 months, with blood work and testing annually. The exam includes:
- Physical exam
- Nutritional needs evaluation
- Behavioral changes review
- Dental health evaluation
Additionally, annual diagnostic and laboratory tests for senior pets may include the following:
- Complete blood chemistry panel and blood count (CBC)
- Urinalysis
- Thyroid check
- Electrolyte check
- Electrocardiogram (EKG)
- Digital radiographs & ultrasound
During each exam, we are available to answer any questions you may have regarding your pet’s health. Together, we can ensure your pet receives the best possible senior care.
