When choosing where to have your pet spayed or neutered, it is important to be sure that the hospital or clinic performing the procedure is doing everything possible to make surgery safe and successful. Wheaton Animal Hospital is proud to provide high-end, quality pet care in every aspect of our daily work, including pet spays and neuters.

So what is so different about what we do?

Before Your Pet’s Spay or Neuter

Quality pet care and a safe anesthetic experience start way before the surgery even begins. We do the following to be sure that your pet’s surgery goes as well as possible:

  • Create a personal relationship with you and your pets
  • Perform a thorough pre-anesthetic examination
  • Conduct pre-operative testing such as blood work and heart tracings to ensure safety
  • Construct a personalized anesthetic protocol based on your pet’s individual needs
  • During Your Pet’s Spay or Neuter

Any surgery your pet may require during his or her lifetime is a big event, and we take your pet’s stay very seriously. Every step of your pet’s spay or neuter procedure is well-planned and thought out so that we are sure to provide personal care and attention to each animal in the hospital that day. All pets undergoing a surgery receive:

  • Pre-anesthetic medications to reduce anxiety, pain, and smooth the anesthetic experience
  • Intravenous catheter placement and fluid administration to prevent dehydration, stabilize blood pressure, and make anesthesia safer
  • Multi-faceted pain relief to make the procedure as comfortable as possible
  • Body temperature support as needed during and after the procedure
  • Careful monitoring of anesthesia by a trained veterinary technician
  • If desired, surgery conducted by CO2 laser to lessen pain and bleeding
  • After Your Pet’s Spay or Neuter

Our commitment to your family pet does not stop after the surgery is complete. Your pet will receive personal attention as he or she wakes up from anesthesia. If needed, your pet can stay the night so that we can be sure he or she is ready to go home. Pets who are spayed or neutered are sent home with detailed release instructions, pain medications as appropriate, and their own e-collar (cone collar).

There are many facilities that provide pet spay and neuter services, but not all of them provide everything that we do. We feel that each and every part of our care for pets undergoing surgery is important in producing a good outcome. We take care of each pet like it is our own and hope that you will trust us with your pet’s spay or neuter surgery. Please don’t hesitate to give us a call with your questions.
